How to edit a presentation template

On Pro, edit a template on the canvas: palette, fonts, type sizes, block areas and shapes. Changes save on their own and show in every presentation using it.

From Pro

You can edit your own template — one imported from PowerPoint or a copy of a built-in one. The built-in template itself never changes: your first edit creates your own copy.

  1. Open the template

    • “Templates” → a card under “Yours” opens the template page.
    • “Templates” → “Edit” on a built-in template makes a copy in your account.
    • In the presentation editor — the “Template” tab in the left panel. Only the presentation's owner can edit its template.
  2. Pick a template slide

On the left are the “Template slides”, one for each kind of slide. Click a slide to open it on the canvas.

  3. Edit areas and shapes

Click an area for text or a photo, or a template shape, and drag the handles to change its position and size. The panel on the right has exact coordinates, “Alignment in the area”, and the shape's fill and stroke.

With nothing selected, the panel shows the template slide: “Add a shape” draws a rectangle, circle or line, “Slide background” sets the background for this kind of slide, and “Restore this template slide” undoes its edits.

  4. Set the palette and fonts

Below that, still with nothing selected, is the whole template: the palette (“Background”, “Text”, “Accent” and other colours), “Fonts” for headings and text, “Type sizes and radius”, and “Styling”. If text is hard to read on its background, a line marked “— low” appears under the palette. On the template page, the light and dark palettes switch in the header.

  5. Check the result

Changes save on their own — you'll see “Template saved”. They show up straight away in every presentation using this template. Made a mistake? Press “Undo”.

Template fonts come from the built-in typefaces. A Google font or your own font file goes on individual blocks — here's how.
